As part of her Liturgical Calendar Link up Party, Xhonané at Familia Católica is hosting a link up for Advent. She is opening the link up on November 8; everyone is invited to join the fun, so if you blog about advent, go attach your link. Click on the button on the top left sidebar, or at the end of this post for more information. Xhonané blogs in Spanish, but includes the Google Translator at the top for those who don’t read Spanish. You can see more information about the other link ups for the Liturgical Calendar, or volunteer to host one yourself, by clicking on the second button on the top left sidebar.
For Catholics, the weeks before Christmas are a time of meditation, waiting, prayer, and sobriety. The waiting and sobriety parts can be particularly difficult For children, especially since Christmas decorations appear in the stores as early as October. How can we keep our children focused on the meaning of Jesus’s arrival instead of on toys and Christmas parties?
I use an Advent Calendar to help my children wait for Christmas and learn about our faith in the process. You can buy Advent Calendars, of course, but they usually just mark the passage of the days. I like to make a list of activities for ours every year because I can personalize the lessons they learn and the activities we do together. Check back in a few days to see my post about making an Advent Calendar full of faithful activities. Read the post about more activities and books here.
